General background

Alexander Philips has been looking after landlords and tenants for nearly ten years now, and our staff have been in the property business for many more years. Starting in the late noughties, Alexander Philips was formed as a management company for a portfolio of let properties across Sussex and Hampshire. We managed the properties from our offices in central Worthing and found tenants for these properties with the cooperation of other agents. We built the business up on quality of service, doubling the size of the portfolio in a little over two years, and building a staff team to take the business forward.

From late 2011 we started to look for new premises with a public facing negotiators office, and early in 2012 we started to negotiate for ideal premises in Broadwater Road, Worthing. We completed the move in April 2012 and from the moment we stepped over the threshold we have been bombarded with landlords and tenants looking for personable good quality service combined with great value for money. We’ve set up to give a really different feel to any other agent, and everyone loves it!

Like every business, our people are key – personable, experienced and professional. Most of our people have a personal interest in property as we are landlords ourselves. Here are a few of our team:

Alexander Philips Chief Executive Neil BallardNeil Ballard – Chief Executive.

Neil has been involved in the property industry for over 25 years. He started his career at the age of 19 with Sussex estate agent Stiles Horton Ledger as a trainee, then moving to Leaders, the largest independent letting agent in the south east, as a trainee letting negotiator. For the next five years Neil worked through the ranks to become a senior branch manager, being deployed to new branches to establish the brand in the area, with spells in East and West Sussex, and also Hampshire.

In 1995 Leaders approached Neil to head up the sales team for Pavilion Property Services, which was being headed by Simon Richards. This company provided industry leading software and other services specifically for residential letting agents. It was during this period that Neil built an overall understanding of the way to run a successful letting agent.

In 1999 a leading agent in Surrey approached Neil to develop a residential letting business. Park & Bailey Letting and Management was established and over the next few years Neil grew the portfolio to 700 properties with a turnover approaching a million pounds. Since then, Neil has started Alexander Philips, now a significant agent in Sussex and Hampshire, and continues to deliver that great service that makes the business grow.

Peter HalerPeter Hayler – Sales Manager.

Since leaving school Peter has mainly worked for large corporate estate agents, progressing to Branch Manager and gaining extensive knowledge of property on the South Coast over the past 20 years. Peter had a dream to work abroad so decided to set up an estate agents in the Canary Islands. This was very successful but he became very home sick and decided to return to England. Alexander Philips relished the opportunity to bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to already successful team.

Alexander Philips client accounts manager David WilkinsonDavid Wilkinson – Client accounts.

David heads up our busy Client Accounts department. A valued member of the team, David has been employed by Alexander Philips from the very beginning. David is approachable and personable and over the years he has proved to be a real asset to the company.

In addition to having worked in the property business for four years, David also has a wealth of general financial and accounting experience after working for 12 years in both accounts and credit control.

Responsible for individually managing all aspects of the company’s client’s accounts you can rest assured that David’s diligent approach to his work will ensure that the financial aspect of all tenancies are in safe hands. David is enthusiastic and highly motivated and is dedicated to achieving the best results possible.

When David is not supporting Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium, he likes nothing better than spending quality time with his wife and two children.

Alexander Philips senior advisor Simon RichardsSimon Richards – Property Consultant.

Simon has been involved with the property industry since 1985. Originally developing accounts software for a variety of professionals, Simon’s company developed the first compliant accounts and management software for letting agents in the late 80s.

By the early 90s he was working with the majority of major agents, recognised as an industry expert in client accounting for property, and wrote the tax regulations for letting agents and non-resident landlords for HMRC (SI 1995/2902). He also had significant involvement with the development of fire, gas and electrical safety regulations.

In the late 90s he ran an inventory company in London, and during the noughties worked with various agents in a consultative capacity on tax, accounts, marketing and general management issues. For some years he had a key leadership role with a city based agent with seven offices and £25 million rent roll. Simon brings nearly 30 years of knowledge and experience to Alexander Philips.

  Paige Butler – Letting Manager.

Paige takes care of the day to day running of our busy lettings department, with her many years of experience she makes sure all our landlords and tenants feel at ease and uses the latest internet technology to market your property to get the best rental income. In her spare time she loves socialising and spending quality time with her family.

  Lily Deane – Property Manager.

Lily spends her day dealing with contractors making sure all the property portfolio is kept in excellent condition, while keeping landlords and tenants happy so there are no void periods from rental income. Lily is a keen photographer and in her spare time she is involved in lots of exhibitions.
